About Fadi Abou-Rihan

I am in provate practice in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in downtown Toronto

The start of my training at the Toronto Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis and the beginning of my clinical practice date back to 1996. I had just finished a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Toronto with a concentration in psychoanalysis and sexuality.

Since then, my clinical training has included four years of post-doctoral seminars and clinical supervision in psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, a year-long observer internship in emergency psychiatry at the Toronto Hospital--Western Division, and, last but not least, a personal analysis.

I work with individuals who often, and in spite of incredibly difficult histories and circumstances, struggle to find meaning in their lives. My therapeutic approach is based on the principle that emotional conflict and psychological stress are best dealt with when they are put into words, without judgement or fear. Patience, respect, and curiosity are key here.

Alongside my clinical practice in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, I have held a number of academic posts. As well, I have published articles and delivered conference papers on various clinical issues, including trauma, grief, depression, sexuality, and the techniques and aims of psychotherapy.
